Name: The Huntington Project

Client: Huntington Beach State Park

Role: Ideator, designer, rebrander

Field: Rebrand

Status: Completed

Nature reserves and parks are well established here in the US. However, due to the history and various changes they’ve experienced, there can be a disconnect between signage and branding. In this hypothetical scenario, the park has reached out looking for a modern rebrand.

The following is the journey from history to application and beauty.

The ideas started flowing from the get go. The original website was a good introduction to the understanding of the park and its goals. From there it was a matter of finding a theming for what a rebrand would entail. I had no intention of going all modern and erasing the vast history of the park, but there was a difficultly in legibility when the park signage attempted to allude to the history; some signs and posters were difficult to read. So I doodled to find an understanding. I doodled a lot.

I was very lucky that I was able to actually visit the park. I took my camera and my dad and we went everywhere we could. I talked to as many staff and volunteers as I could. Below are my favorite memories.

Conclusion of personal thoughts:

This project was so fun. Actually going out there to the park was a one of a kind experience. I’ll be bringing my family to this park and sharing it with others. This is what makes me truly love design work. This passion that flows out of you. The reality of helping people in spreading beauty. It makes me so happy. I hope it made you feel that way too.

Design

Finally, we’ve reached the design portion. The following is the process and results of all that ideation and the knowledge brought upon by the visit to the park itself.
